Waxing Down There: What Your Clients Need to Know

Here’s your springtime reality check: it’s almost bathing suit season. Time to bare all, and ready or not, there is one area where you can feel confident and perfect…your bikini line. There’s really no wrong choice in how you decide to groom down there, from different styles of bikini waxes to full Brazilians it’s definitely a personal choice. And whether you’re a first-timer, or a seasoned wax pro, getting a bikini wax can still elevate the stress level a bit. That’s why we’ve put together a few thoughts from our professionals to make sure your wax appointment is the least painful thing about bikini season.

How to Prepare

First (and this is very important) resist the urge to shave, tweeze or have any hair removed before you come in. Your wax professional does not care what it looks like down there, we promise. Doing any sort of clean up prior to your appointment can affect your overall results. A good rule to follow is to wait at least three whole weeks after you’ve shaved for your next appointment. Be sure to come to your wax appointment clean and definitely not post-workout. Anything you are waxing should be freshly washed to help keep any post-wax issues at bay. The warmer and sweatier your skin, the harder it is to wax. Don’t underestimate the benefits of exfoliating when it comes to waxing. Nothing prepares your skin better than ensuring it is free of dead skin cells, and that your skin and hair are soft prior to waxing. Regular exfoliating also helps with proper hair growth and can keep ingrown hairs from being an issue post-wax. Try using a soothing liquid body wash and exfoliating gloves daily a few weeks prior to your appointment.

What to Wear

Might as well dress comfortably especially when you might not be feeling comfortable, right? But by comfortable, we don’t mean leggings or yoga pants. Stay away from anything tight-fitting, and instead think maxi dress, loose pants, and anything that is made from breathable cotton. And you don’t need to wear your bikini bottoms or bathing suit; your underwear is fine. Your wax professional will either give you a pair of disposable G-Strings to wear or will tie your underwear back to get a clear line to wax.

What to Do After

Post wax care is a crucial step in the overall wax experience. Your professional waxer will want you to follow a few simple steps post-wax to ensure a smooth outcome. Waiting 24-hours is the magic number for most things post-wax such as working out and staying away from tight-fitting clothes. Also avoid direct heat, sun, and heavy lotions for maximum results. If you are prone to breakouts, be sure to apply something for blemish control. This will go a long way in keeping the hair follicle clear, suppress bacteria, and jump-start the healing process. Continue to use it several days post-wax for the best results. And finally, be sure to start exfoliating and moisturizing the skin 24-hours after your appointment. Using the same body wash and exfoliating gloves, focus on areas just waxed to clean and moisturize.
