Super Bowl 51 is nearly here, and whether you’re a football fan or not, there is one thing we can all agree on… Houston is one amazing city! While past Super Bowl locations have included Santa Clara, Atlanta and Miami, Houston has a pretty interesting history of its own. Here are four cool things to do if you are in Houston for Super Bowl 51.

Space Center of Houston
You’ve heard it before…“Houston, we have a problem.” This wasn’t a choice of random city; in fact, NASA has its Johnson Space Center based here. So if you’re interested in all things outer space then the Space Center of Houston has to be a must see on your list! You can eat lunch with an astronaut, explore Mars in a new exhibit, and tour the New Mission Control that controls the Space Station! If you’re looking for something family-friendly, this attraction is calling your name.

Houston Museum of Natural Science
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is more than just an attraction, it’s the most widely visited museum in the state, and one of the most heavily visited in the U.S.! What makes this museum truly fascinating is the number of guest exhibits that come and go. While you can always visit the Cockrell Butterfly Center, currently the Museum of Natural Science hosts Mummies of the World and Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibits for just a limited time. No doubt, there’s something inspiring to see all year long!

Sporting Events
Houston is truly a sportsman’s paradise! This may be a given considering Houston is hosting the Super Bowl, but if you love sporting events, make sure to put many of Houston’s other activities on your bucket list. In fact, this city has five professional sports teams: the Houston Rockets, Texans, Astros, Dash, and Dynamo. If you time your visit right, you may be able to take in a game to see one or more of these teams! During Super Bowl 51 weekend, grab tickets to see the Rockets take on the Chicago Bulls Feb. 3.

Super Bowl Live at Discovery Green
Did you know that Houston is the nation’s fourth-largest city? Neither did we! The culture is thriving here with many unique combinations of activities that you might only find in the South. Who doesn’t love the idea of mixing performing arts, livestock and rodeo shows?! But if you are there for the Big Game, the must see event is Super Bowl Live. This fan festival includes everything that you could possibly love about Houston: artists, exhibits, games, history, and a ride mimicking a takeoff to Mars.

While the Super Bowl may be the reason you are visiting Houston, the city’s abundance of history, culture and attractions and make it a destination sure to satisfy your desire for wanderlust.
